Alt Tag: When the user scrolls the mouse pointer over a graphic object on a webpage an alternate text associated with it is rendered visible. This associated text is called Alt Tag or image alt tag.
Anchor Text: It is the text to which a particular link is associated. More technically speaking, it is the hyperlinked text which connects one webpage to another.
Back Links: These are the inbound links or those links that point towards the webpage in question.
Click Through Rate: It is the ratio of the appearance of link to the number of times people click on it. It is one of the major factors that determine the popularity of the link.
Crawler or Spider: It is the search engine program or algorithm that is responsible for the actual functioning of the search engines. These crawlers or spiders keep visiting the websites present on the world wide web and thus rank them or prioritize them.
Keywords: These are the search criteria that are used by the users to search for desired information on the internet. The website owners target keywords/ phrases relevant to their website business domain and use it in the website content.
Link building: It is an effort to enhance link popularity of the website. The link of the website is submitted to various search engines and web directories. It is kind of online PR.
Meta Tags: This is meta information that is associated with a particular web page. It is that part of the HTML coding that the search engine algorithm associates with the webpage but is not visible to the user.
PageRank: It is the Google’s mechanism to measure a webpage’s link popularity. It is a rank scale of 0 to 10.
